Depo-Provera and Sayana Press contraception injections
Compensation for meningioma risk linked to injectable contraceptives
The British Medical Journal has recently published research linking prolonged use of an injectable contraception known commonly as ‘Depo-Provera’ or ‘Sayana Press’ to an increased risk of meningioma.
Meningioma is a type of brain tumour involving the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. The symptoms of this condition involve a change in vision, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, loss of smell, headaches, memory loss, seizures, and weakness in the arms or legs.
Hugh James is currently investigating claims for compensation for those who have affected by this condition and have been using one of these contraceptives for over a year.
Depo-Provera is injected at a GP surgery, whereas Sayana Press is commonly prescribed to be self-injected at home under the skin of your abdomen or thigh. Both injections are typically required every 12 to 13 weeks. Although the risk of meningioma is relatively low without the contraceptives, the new study finds that the medicine increases the risk of meningioma by 5.6%.
Hugh James has a proven track record of successful product liability claims. The team maintains a top ranking in both independent legal directories, Chambers and Partners and Legal 500.
Compensation has been recovered for many victims of harmful products such as ordinary household products as well as medical and pharmaceutical devices.
Our product liability lawyers:
- assist some of the 700,000 or so people who are injured each year and wish to seek compensation for their losses – and we can assist those who have been injured and who could claim but feel unable to;
- investigate each potential claim thoroughly and offer early and ongoing assessments as to the prospects of success in your claim and the likely level of compensation and other remedies you may be entitled to;
- help clients who have suffered relatively minor injuries and those who have had the misfortune to suffer catastrophic and life-changing injuries;
- work to the highest service standards so that we conclude your case as quickly as possible with the right remedy; and
- work on conditional fee agreements (no win, no fee) so that if we don’t win your case there is no bill to pay.
We can take you through the process of making a claim for compensation. In addition to your pain and suffering, you could be entitled to your out-of-pocket expenses incurred in seeking remedial treatment, time off work and care needs. If you or a relative has suffered injury as a result of this product, call a member of our team for a no obligation discussion of your options to gain compensation.
