Hugh James is proud to be a Trusted Legal Partner of the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) in two regions:
- South Wales and the West of England
- the West Midlands.
The SIA is a charity which aims to support everyone with a spinal cord injury, to tackle whatever barriers they face, and connect them to whatever help and support they may need to flourish in their lives. One way they do this is by hosting SIA Peer Support Groups.
Peer Support Groups are hosted throughout the UK and representatives from our serious injury and clinical negligence teams attend regularly to help the Peer Support Officers and to provide legal advice to members.
Our regional partnership with the SIA has strengthened the support we provide to the spinal cord injury community; for example, we can provide advice in respect of a wide range of legal services such as personal injury, employment law, continuing health care, wills, trusts, lasting powers of attorney, property law and welfare benefits. We also provide financial assistance through the Hugh James Emergency Fund.
Abigail Russell from our Serious Injury team recently supported the SIA Peer Support Group in West Midlands alongside Emily Andrews from our Clinical Negligence team. Abbie and Emily helped Brendan Fitzgerald from the SIA to host a Christmas quiz, and with some M&S chocolates up for grabs, everyone was keen to get involved!
Abbie commented:
“We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the group about day-to-day things. Some of the attendees had questions regarding the support Hugh James was able to provide and it was a pleasure to get to know everyone whilst providing support over cups of tea. Thank you to the wonderful team of coordinators and volunteers for organising the meeting and welcoming us both. We look forward to seeing you all again soon!”
The local SIA community groups give people with spinal cord injury, their friends and family the opportunity to socialise with others who have experienced similar situations and to raise questions regarding matters which are causing them concern.
The Birmingham SIA community group usually meet on the second Thursday of each month but it is best to check with Brendan Fitzgerald of the SIA regarding the date, location and time of meetings. For more information: West Midlands – SIA (spinal.co.uk)
