The family of Peter Jones, a retired scientific officer who died from mesothelioma just weeks after receiving a shock diagnosis, is appealing for former colleagues and witnesses to come forward with any information that could help support a legal investigation into his past exposure to asbestos.
Peter Jones passed away in 2024 at the age of 88. Prior to his retirement, Peter had a long and respected career in scientific research. In retirement, he lived in Woodbridge and enjoyed sailing, supporting the RNLI, and pursuing a wide range of hobbies and artistic interests.
It is believed that Peter’s exposure to asbestos occurred during his working life, and our specialist asbestos lawyers are seeking information from anyone who may have worked with him or has knowledge of asbestos at his former places of employment.
Peter worked at Fisons Limited, in their horticultural chemicals division at Chesterford Park, Little Chesterford (Essex), between 1960 and 1969, and subsequently at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, from 1969 until his early retirement in 1993.
Phoebe Osborne, Legal Director, said:
“During my investigations, I located a Hansard report from 2003 which highlights that the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs identified the Former Plant Pathology Laboratory at Hatching Green Drive, Harpenden, as a site that contained asbestos.
This was one of the key locations where Peter worked during his time at MAFF, and we are particularly interested in gathering any information about asbestos exposure at this site and its potential impact on Peter’s health.”
Peter’s son and daughter are now urging anyone who worked with him at Fisons Limited or MAFF, or who has any knowledge of asbestos at those sites, to come forward. Even the smallest detail could prove crucial in helping to understand how Peter was exposed and support the family’s legal case.
