One month to go: The countdown begins for major Wales sporting event

As proud sponsors of the Long Course Weekend Wales ‘Powered By’ Hugh James, we join sports enthusiasts up and down the country looking forward to the exciting multisport event taking place from 30 June to 2 July 2023 in Pembrokeshire.

With one month to go, we’ve been hearing from some of our colleagues who have signed up to take part in the various events; the half marathon, bike races or swim races – and some brave participants will compete in more than just one event!

Charlotte Fletcher, Mary McCutchan, Campbell McKellar, Rebecca Murray and Molly Thackeray all shared why they have decided to get involved, how their training is going and how they are feeling in the run up to the big day.

As the date of the event date gets closer, Charlotte Fletcher, Senior Associate in the Court of Protection team, said:

“I am really looking forward to it. I don’t think I have ever done a standalone cycling event and so I am excited to see what it is like. Cycling is my weakest triathlon event so it will be a really good experience. I haven’t really thought about the run yet. I try and remind myself that it is meant to be fun, though that’s not always easy!”

With a love of triathlons and endurance events, Campbell McKellar, Senior Associate in the Corporate Commercial team, said:

“I have heard about the LCW event over the course of many years. After seeing how perfect the sea looked last year during a break in Tenby, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take part in the swim. I have started training and am confident of completing the distance at least, but I’m aiming to increase swim training in the last month to try to get back on the beach a bit quicker.”

It’s great to see our colleagues get involved in the challenge and we’re proud to support their wellbeing through sport. As well as opportunities for our staff, our partnership with LCW Wales supports their community legacy programme which has helped over 850 children in the area with extra swimming coaches in lessons, sports days and bikes through the Geraint Thomas trust to local primary schools.

This Long Course Legacy programme has been providing vital assistance to local sporting, community and educational groups in the past few years, so we’re really pleased to be able to support such a brilliant cause.

Joe Purcell, Director of Business Development and Marketing, said:

“LCW Wales is a flagship multi-sport event and, as Wales’ leading law firm with a strong reputation in the sports sector, we are thrilled to be named title partners. Like LCW, Hugh James has grown outside of Wales, and we support causes and charities that resonate with our clients and the work we do right across the UK. Our LCW Wales partnership is centred on giving Hugh James employees and community groups greater access to social and physical activities. We’re really looking forward to the events and wish everyone taking part lots of fun and success in the preparations ahead.”
