Hugh James offers support to former JMR clients facing CWI claim challenges

Hugh James is assisting former clients of Manchester-based JMR Solicitors (‘JMR’) following transfer of its case files relating to cavity wall insulation (‘CWI’) claims. The cases were originally handled by the SSB Group Limited (‘SSB’) that was placed into administration on 4 January 2024.

The cases have been transferred to Hugh James as JMR is no longer undertaking CWI related work. The Solicitors Regulatory Authority (‘SRA’) are aware of the transfer and of the specialist support and advice that our dedicated team can offer clients.

We are in the process of writing out to all former JMR to outline their options. If you are a former client of JMR and are concerned, then please contact us directly. JMR clients are not obliged to instruct Hugh James moving forward but we do recommend that independent legal advice is sought particularly where there are ongoing legal proceedings.

Hugh James believes that the majority of former SSB clients will have claims for professional negligence against the firm relating to the handling of their CWI case. We already act for a large number of clients bringing claims for professional negligence seeking to recover losses incurred due to the handling of their cavity wall insulation claims.

We will assist you wherever possible in reducing your adverse costs liabilities, dealing with third-party solicitors who threaten enforcement action and advise you of your legal position and options for redress.

Whilst SSB is in administration leaving substantial debts to litigation funders of more than £200 million, the firm does have professional indemnity insurance cover in place which should meet claims for professional negligence.

SSB Law handled many thousands of claims relating to cavity wall insultation before running into difficulty. The clients that we represent are being pursued for legal costs despite being told their cases were being handled on a ‘no win no fee’.

At Hugh James, we understand the devastating impact that financial loss can have on people’s lives. Our focus is on getting our clients the justice and compensation they so rightly deserve. Our expert team are on hand to offer support and expert guidance through these challenging times.

If you are a former JMR client affected by the cavity wall insulation claim transfer and are concerned about your case, please contact us for a consultation.
