Hugh James supports Celtic Utilities Group with strategic acquisition of Electrafence Limited

We are delighted to have advised South Wales headquartered Celtic Utilities Group with acquisition of leading perimeter security systems provider Cheshire-based Electrafence Limited.

The acquisition of Electrafence Limited is another significant milestone for Celtic Utilities Group Limited, which already owns and successfully operates Celtic Recycling Limited, Transerv Europe Limited, and ReGen Construction Limited. The move strengthens their market position and enhances its commitment to the industry by adding the provision of perimeter security and low-carbon fencing solutions to its portfolio.

Celtic Utilities Group provide specialist services to the UK energy sector including power transformer installation, commissioning and maintenance; live site dismantling, recovery, and recycling of redundant capital equipment; and sustainable civil engineering solutions.

Electrafence Limited is a leading UK provider of perimeter security, civil engineering contracting services, and low-carbon fencing. Electrafence designs and installs solutions for a diverse client portfolio including National Grid, South-West Water, Balfour Beatty, Siemens, and ABB, many of whom are existing Celtic Utilities Group customers.

Gerallt Jones, Head of our Corporate / Commercial team, led the deal, with assistance from our multidisciplinary team including Corporate Associate Matt Detheridge, Employment Partner Claire Tait, and Employment Solicitor Alex Hurt. Additionally, Katherine Broadhurst, Partner and Adam Dix, Assistant Manager of Azets provided corporate finance advice, and Iain Sanderson, Partner, provided taxation advice to Celtic Utilities Group for the acquisition.

Keith James, CEO of Celtic Utilities Group Limited, commented:

“We are thrilled to welcome Electrafence Limited into the Celtic Utilities family. This acquisition not only strengthens our market position but also expands our capabilities to include the delivery of state-of-the-art perimeter security solutions to our customers. We look forward to a smooth integration of this additional expertise within the group, as we continue to develop the range of services, we are able to provide to both existing, and prospective clients. Thanks to the expert support of the legal team at Hugh James, and our accountants Azets, we are in great shape to be able to support the demands of future major energy infrastructure projects in the UK, to the benefit of our employees, customers, and the wider economy”.

Gerallt Jones commented:

“We’re delighted to support Celtic Utilities Group as they continue their exciting growth trajectory with the acquisition of Electrafence. This deal further strengthens the group’s market position and expands their services portfolio.”
