Hugh James has been instructed to represent a client who was sexually abused at the Olands Assessment Centre at Milverton, near Taunton, Somerset.
Alan Collins, a solicitor at Hugh James, specialises in abuse claims and has acted before for victims who were sexually abused whilst resident at the Olands Assessment Centre in Somerset. New instructions have now been received.
In 2001 a former care worker named William Rogers but known also as “Big Bill” was jailed for six years for a string of sexual offences on boys at Olands.
The court heard that Rogers treated the centre near Taunton as a “paedophile’s paradise”, carrying out assaults as part of “sadistic” games of torture with boys as young as nine.
Judge Gilbert QC said: “You abused that trust very gravely indeed, you saw them as playthings for your sexual and physical pleasures”.
“The truth is you treated Olands as a paedophile’s paradise, where you submitted the children in your care to sexual abuse, to pain, to bondage, and even to torture for your own perverted pleasure.”
Many of the victims had suffered both physical and psychiatric injures as a result of the sexual assaults inflicted on them by Rogers.
Compensation claims are brought in cases such as this to enable very often victims to finance the medical treatment they need. For further information contact Alan Collins for free initial advice.
