Partner at Hugh James scoops Women in Housing award
Caroline O’Flaherty, Partner in Hugh James’ Commercial Property team, has scooped the title of Consultant of the Year at the Women in Housing Awards 2018.
Caroline fought off competition from leading lawyers, architects and chartered surveyors throughout the UK to secure the title, which was presented at an award ceremony held at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
The judges chose Caroline for her work in helping clients build lasting communities, which she continues to support following the completion stage of each project.
She was also recognised by the judges for her role in mentoring the social housing team at Hugh James.
Clients also confirmed her knowledge of the property industry as “first class”, helping to shape their house-building business and consider her to be a “first port of call who stands out on all the projects she works on.”
Caroline’s commitment to boosting the social housing sector
Caroline is a partner at Hugh James, a firm with over 30 years’ experience advising the social housing sector and house builders. Now in their sixth year, the Women in Housing Awards are a UK wide event attracting over 700 guests from housing associations across England and Wales.
On her award win, Caroline said:
“It was truly an amazing evening which showcased the strength and quality of women in housing. I was delighted to accept the honour of being Consultant of the Year, especially in a category with such high calibre of candidates and diversity of specialisms. The award is recognition of all the support I have from our committed and hardworking social housing team and all our housing association clients and friends.”
At Hugh James, Caroline has helped to develop a team with considerable expertise, where every member contributes towards the social value that the law firm provides. Taking a personal approach to every client, Caroline believes strongly in Hugh James’ commitment to supporting the communities in which the firm operates.
She has led her teams for “Give and Gain” days to refurbish a family hub centre at Ysgol Ty Coch in Tonteg, helped create a new play area on waste land adjoining a site in Church Village, painted railings, landscaped a neglected area outside a sheltered accommodation scheme and have built raised beds for a community in Barry.
The firm is also now working in partnership with the sector on initiatives to combat loneliness, family health and wellbeing and improve employment opportunities. Caroline’s work within the sector has had a significant impact in shaping the direction of Hugh James’ work in local communities.
