Hugh James has advised Avanti Media, a Cardiff-based production company, on all legal matters relating to the high profile tender win from the BBC to produce Songs of Praise.
This was a unique commercial and contractual scenario as it was the first contract of its kind to be awarded by the BBC. This meant the team had to adapt quickly to advise on suitable legal models to reflect this.
The team, led by partner Aled Walters, advised on the tender bid, the programme production agreement with the BBC, the BBC’s general terms document, agreement with key talent including Aled Jones and the detailed TUPE advice surrounding the contract award.
Aled, who has been advising Avanti Media for more than 17 years, said:
“We’re very proud to have worked with Avanti on the legal issues relating to this contract award. I have seen how hard the husband and wife team, Emyr and Mair Afan, have worked on growing and expanding Avanti and the awarding of this network production is truly well deserved. I wish them every success with the continued production of this long running and successful series for the BBC.”
Avanti has also recently completed a deal with Sky Vision which has seen Sky take a majority stake in the company, which Hugh James also advised on. Read more here.
