We are appealing to former employees of F O’Sullivan and Kier Limited who worked at Devonport Dockyard between 1973 and 1978 on the construction of the Frigate and Submarine Complex as part of a legal investigation.
We have been instructed to pursue a civil compensation claim by the family of Mrs Beryl McKane, who tragically passed away in November 2021 as a result of Mesothelioma, a type of cancer linked to asbestos exposure.
We believe that Mrs McKane’s late husband, Mr Cliff McKane, was exposed to asbestos whilst working for F O’Sullivan and Kier Limited at Devonport Dockyard between 1973 and 1978.
Cliff McKane worked as a carpenter and joiner for F O’Sullivan and Kier Construction and was involved in the construction of the Frigate and Submarine complex at Devonport Dockyard. We understand that the complexes were lined with asbestos cladding, which was cut by the carpenters and joiners before being installed. The asbestos dust contaminated his clothing, which was then taken home daily and washed by his wife.
Mrs McKane’s children commented:
“It was a huge shock when mum was diagnosed with mesothelioma, especially when we found out it was from her washing our father’s work clothing. We would be grateful for any information anyone is able to provide as to how our father was exposed to asbestos.”
We are looking for any former employees of F O’Sullivan and Kier Limited who worked at Devonport Dockyard between 1973 and 1978 on the construction of the Frigate and Submarine Complex who can confirm how exposure arose at the time and in particular anyone who worked at Devonport Dockyard with or at the same time as Mr Cliff McKane. If you worked with Mr McKane at any point during his career and recall exposure to asbestos, or have any other information relating to asbestos exposure with any of the employers listed above, we would greatly appreciate your assistance.
Your recollections could play a crucial role in the ongoing case to establish the circumstances of asbestos exposure and hold accountable those responsible.
