Hugh James advises ROCKWOOL as it expands manufacturing facilities in Birmingham

Our commercial property experts have advised ROCKWOOL Group, the world leader in stone wool insulation products, on the acquisition of 114 acres of land in Birmingham. This strategic move supports ROCKWOOL’s intentions to expand its UK operations with a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and support the UK’s net zero targets.

If approved, the Peddimore facility would complement ROCKWOOL’s existing UK factory in Bridgend, South Wales, where the company is also continuing to invest for the long-term. The expansion would generate numerous skilled long-term jobs and local supply chain opportunities and boost supply capacity for customers in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Leading the expert legal team advising on the acquisition of the manufacturing site was Caroline O’Flaherty, Partner, supported by Iwan Jenkins Construction Partner and Alex Madden Partner and Planning and Environmental lead.

Speaking of the land-deal and the support of Caroline and her team, Nick Wilson, Managing Director of ROCKWOOL UK & Ireland commented:

“We’re very excited at the opportunity to expand the business into the West Midlands that would enable us to boost our production capacity in the UK and to create quality jobs and business opportunities in the local community.

“During the past 45 years, we have built a strong foundation at our site in South Wales where we will continue to manufacture and invest for the long-term and are now looking to build on that success with a second manufacturing plant at the Peddimore site.

“We’re grateful to the property and planning team at Hugh James including Caroline O’Flaherty, Iwan Jenkins and Alex Madden, for their insights and expertise on this important strategic project.”

Partner Caroline O’Flaherty added:

“We are proud to have supported ROCKWOOL in this strategic acquisition. On the back of their growth success in South Wales, we are delighted to have played a role in their latest venture.”
