We have recently been approached by a former employee of Mid Wales Hospital in Talgarth, Wales. Our client has asked our specialist asbestos claims team to determine how she was exposed to asbestos during her working life and investigate a civil compensation claim.
The dangers of asbestos were well-established by the time she started working at Mid Wales Hospital, and thus her employer had a duty to ensure that she was safe at work.
We are sad to report that in March 2021, our client was diagnosed with mesothelioma – a form of cancer that you can only develop as a result of being previously exposed to asbestos.
During the time our client worked at Mid Wales Hospital, she recalls countless times when construction and repair work was carried out to improve the aging hospital.
It is believed that our client was exposed to asbestos during one or more of the repair and renovation projects undertaken at the hospital. She vividly recalls the premises being incredibly dirty and dusty during these times.
If you worked at Mid Wales Hospital and know about the use of asbestos in any of the construction work that was carried out, we need to hear from you. Whether you were a staff member or a trades person, speaking to us about your experience could make all the difference for our client and her family.
The hospital has changed its name several times over the past few years, and you may remember it as the Brecon and Radnor Joint Asylum or the Mid-Wales Counties Mental Hospital.
